kalyna country

"Kalyna" is the Slavic or Ukrainian term for the highbush cranberry or guelder rose, which flourishes in the East Central Alberta countryside.  The ripe berries make delicious jams, jellies, syrups and butters.  "Kalyna" is also Maria's mother's name!

Take a hike or drive to the top of...  Akasu (Sickman) Hill.

It is the highest geodetic elevation between Edmonton and Winnipeg (2,500 ft. above sea level).  Located about 1 km. north of Lavoy.  From the top of the hill you'll get a splendid view of the area farms and countryside.
